Weekend Wedding Featured in Boston Globe. Rachel + Nick . 6.21.25

A Real-Life Rom-Com in the Hudson Valley

Rachel & Nick at The Maples Estate
June 21, 2025 | Schoharie, NY

If ever there were a wedding that felt like a modern-day love story come to life, it was Rachel and Nick’s. Their relationship began—fittingly for the times—over Zoom, during a group hang that turned into an unexpectedly intimate four-hour conversation. Fast forward five years, and those same two friends exchanged handwritten vows beneath the trees at The Maples Estate, our serene garden wedding venue tucked along the banks of the Schoharie Creek River in upstate New York.

Their story, filled with friendship, food, and fate, captured hearts well beyond their guest list—it was even featured in The Boston Globe.

The Setting: Nature, Architecture & Heart

Rachel and Nick chose The Maples Estate for its blend of relaxed natural beauty and modern comfort—exactly what they wanted for their Hudson Valley wedding weekend. With most of their 120 guests traveling from New Jersey and Massachusetts, the property served as the perfect midpoint and an ideal canvas for their vision: an elegant, multi-day celebration that still felt approachable, unpretentious, and full of fun.

Rachel and Nick’s Friday night rehearsal dinner featured fresh wood-fired pizza and raw bar by Otter Rock Shellfish followed by a welcome ice cream social on the cocktail lawn with Ben & Jerry’s.

The couple married outdoors under a canopy of trees, surrounded by lush summer greens and floral arrangements of anthuriums and Phalaenopsis orchids—artful, tropical, and modern, much like the pair themselves. The ceremony space overlooked the creek, where the sound of the water and a soft breeze carried through as they read their vows, promising to cherish not just the extraordinary moments, but “the joys found in the mundane and everyday.”

The Design: A Modern, Meaningful Fusion

For Rachel—a co-creator of Two Taste Buddiez, Boston’s food content platform with over 100K followers on both TikTok and IG—design and food were inextricably linked. The couple wanted the day to feel like a reflection of their shared values: elevated but unfussy, personal but polished.

Their aesthetic struck that balance beautifully. Hand-painted watercolor signage greeted guests with pops of soft color, while tablescapes mixed modern ceramics with organic greenery and warm, flickering candlelight. The overall effect felt sophisticated yet alive, the kind of beauty that feels effortless because it’s deeply personal.

After dinner, Rachel swapped her Nadia Manjarrez wedding gown for a red dress by Hong Kong designer Cheryl Leung‘s label, Sau Lee, for a traditional Chinese tea ceremony—one of many thoughtful nods to her family and heritage. The celebration’s Asian American fusion design extended beyond tradition, weaving subtle cultural details through the food, music, and energy of the night.

The Food: A Culinary Experience

Food was, of course, a defining feature of the weekend. The couple partnered with Dave the Butcher, a Hudson Valley-based caterer known for open-fire cooking and farm-sourced ingredients. Guests watched as a whole roast pig was carved on-site during cocktail hour, then served with tangy fish sauce vinaigrette for dinner—a crowd favorite.

Dinner unfolded in the pavilion under soft lighting, with long tables set for shared plates and laughter. The meal ended with not one, but two cakes: a three-foot-long dark chocolate cake with pretzel caramel for guests, and a small vegan carrot cake with lemon curd just for the couple. Every bite mirrored Rachel’s philosophy as a food influencer: food is connection, creativity, and celebration all at once. They even had late night truffle smash burgers distributed on the dance floor.

The Celebration: Pets, Pop Songs & Pure Joy

As twilight fell, the evening shifted into a joyful blur of dancing, music, and moments that felt straight out of one of Nick’s favorite rom-coms. Their miniature dachshund, Millie, and Rachel’s family dog, Lydia, stole the show as “flower pups”—a detail that perfectly captured the couple’s playfulness and warmth.

Guests roared with laughter as oversized cutouts of the pups (“Fatheads”) joined them on the dance floor to Taylor Swift’s Love Story, kicking off one of the most exuberant parties of the season. Later, for their first dance, the newlyweds swayed to Kina Grannis’s acoustic version of Can’t Help Falling in Love, from Crazy Rich Asians—a nod to both culture and cinematic romance.

It was a fitting full-circle moment for Nick, who had spent the early days of lockdown streaming rom-coms and wondering about the different ways people fall in love. His story found its happy ending—right here, in the middle of the Hudson Valley, under strings of light and a sky full of stars.

Why The Maples Estate

Rachel and Nick’s wedding embodies everything we love about what’s possible here at The Maples Estate: a celebration that’s intentional, design-forward, and deeply personal. From the creekside tree ceremony to the late-night dance floor, every space on the property helped tell a part of their story.

Garden Wedding Venue . Aislinn + Alec . 8.23.25

A Decadent Garden Party with Personality & Play

Aislinn & Alec at The Maples Estate
August 23, 2025 | Schoharie, NY

Aislinn and Alec came into their planning process with an incredibly clear (and completely refreshing) vision: they wanted a wedding that was chill, fun, and beautiful—but never overdone. Their focus wasn’t on tradition. It wasn’t on following trends. It was on creating a celebration that looked and felt like them.

They imagined a playful, artful weekend in the late summer—something that felt like a cross between a vintage garden picnic, a Berlin cocktail bar, and a curated gallery of their life together. Think: pops of color, wild florals, mid-century furniture, 90s fashion, craft cocktails, and a great playlist. As their garden wedding venue and planning team, we were thrilled to help bring their vision to life.

A Wedding That Was Never Meant to Feel Like a Wedding

From the start, Aislinn and Alec were less concerned with rules and more focused on vibe. They wanted good food, great drinks, a diverse soundtrack, and space for conversation and dancing—not a rigid schedule or a million formalities.

We tossed the "traditional reception" playbook in favor of:

  • Joint getting-ready moments (they share all the same friends anyway)

  • Minimal speeches and no forced timelines

  • A casual, joyful flow from ceremony to cocktails to an all-night dance party

  • Design that felt like home, but cooler

Vintage Florals, Whimsical Textures & A Bold Color Palette

Their design direction centered around a decadent picnic garden party aesthetic, with vintage and mid-century influences, and lots of texture and color. Aislinn loved bows, draping, gingham, and wildflowers. Alec leaned more minimal and architectural. The final result was a perfect blend of both of them—equal parts playful and stylish.

We built the palette around lilac, light blue, mauve pink, and olive green, and layered in poppy red and sunny yellow as unexpected accent colors. Mixed metals and creamy neutrals gave the whole thing a soft glow without feeling too precious.

Their florals were intentionally wild and imperfect—messy in a way that felt curated, not chaotic. Everything was designed to look like it had just been picked and artfully arranged, without too much fuss.

A Celebration Rooted in Who They Are

We knew from their initional onboarding and early planning convos that Aislinn and Alec are all about thoughtful curation. They love vintage pieces with a story. He collects records, she hoards vintage furniture and wears thrifted dresses. They met in Italy, love Berlin, and live for a great cocktail and a better conversation. Their perfect day involves multiple locations, spontaneous encounters, good drinks, and even better people.

So, we built that into the wedding:

  • Lounge vignettes with vintage furniture, perfect for chatting or dancing barefoot

  • Wild, textural floral arrangements that felt gathered rather than styled

  • A photojournalistic shooting style that matched their 90s-meets-film-camera aesthetic

And of course, Aislinn’s 90s-inspired dress tied it all together.

A Garden Wedding Venue That Let the Weekend Breathe

At The Maples Estate, we design weddings that unfold across a weekend, not a few rushed hours—and that was perfect for Aislinn and Alec. They had time for a family cookout on Thursday, space to create floral arrangements with friends on Friday, host a casual rehearsal-style dinner that night, and fully relax into their wedding day without the pressure of sticking to a strict timeline.

Their goal? A weekend getaway with their favorite people. Something that looked beautiful, felt effortless, and gave everyone space to be present. And that’s exactly what we created together.

Planning a Wedding That Feels Like You?

Whether you’re dreaming of a weekend filled with dance parties and dirty martinis, or a picnic-in-the-meadow kind of vibe, we’d love to help you design a wedding that celebrates your story—not someone else’s. Let’s make it playful. Let’s make it personal. Let’s make it yours.

Modern Wedding Design . Amy + John . 8.9.25

August 9, 2025 at The Maples Estate
Schoharie, NY – Upstate New York

A Modern Collage of Love, Color & Art

Amy and John’s wedding wasn’t just an event—it was an experience. One that unfolded like a layered collage of all their favorite things: design, art, nature, travel, and the people they love most. When we first began planning together, they didn’t come with a strict theme or a Pinterest board—they came with stories, aesthetics, and references that spanned everything from nautical flags and Bauhaus design to Monet’s Water Lilies, retro athleticwear, and their favorite flower varieties. Our job was to take all of that and weave it into a cohesive, intentional, joy-filled weekend.

This is what Modern Wedding Design looks like when it’s rooted in meaning.

A Wedding Inspired by Everything They Love

The design process started with a conversation about the things that matter most to Amy and John—what makes them feel at home, what excites them creatively, and how they wanted their guests to feel all weekend long. Their inspirations were wonderfully eclectic:

  • Beach, water & boats: sails, stripes, linen textures

  • Modern art: Bauhaus shapes, Monet’s painterly palette, and layered collage techniques

  • Mid-century modern & retro design

  • Travel: flags, doors, architecture

  • Athleisure: yes, really

  • Florals: Amy adores sunflowers, John loves lilies

Their color palette reflected all of it. Anchored in blues and greens, the weekend featured pops of red, yellow, orange, and purple, balanced with neutrals like linen, white, and black. We leaned into textured linens, clean lines, warm wood and teak accents, and playful but elevated stationery and art installations. The feel? Relaxed. Full of joy. And completely them.

Two Days, Two Vibes

One of the first creative decisions we made was to split the weekend into two distinct design moods.

Friday: Amy’s Night

Friday’s welcome dinner and ceremony were full of Amy’s favorite things—sunflowers, casual BBQ, and golden-hour magic. Guests arrived to a low-key dinner under the cocktail tent, sipping seltzers and IPAs while sunflowers swayed on the tables. As dusk fell, we guided everyone to the tree grove for a twilight ceremony, lit by bistro lights and surrounded by candles. Amy and John stood with their siblings and exchanged vows in a ceremony officiated by a close friend. It was intimate, emotional, and warm. Dessert and firelight followed with s’mores and conversation under the stars.

Saturday: John’s Celebration

Saturday brought a shift in tone—modern, colorful, and full of bold detail. This was John’s day, filled with lilies, a killer playlist, and design nods to his love of art and architecture. The cocktail lawn featured linen-covered tables, glass vases with minimalist blooms, and passed bites that had everyone raving. The reception? A study in Modern Wedding Design. Clean lines, art-inspired place settings, and custom collage artwork turned the pavilion into a gallery.

A Living Art Installation

Amy and John didn’t just want a beautiful space—they wanted a space that spoke. So we partnered with a collage artist to create six original pieces featuring photos of their guests, places they’d traveled, and loved ones who couldn’t attend. These artworks were installed as a backdrop inside the reception pavilion, adding a deeply personal, museum-meets-dance-party vibe.

Every printed piece—from table numbers to bar menus to seating signage—incorporated the same collage aesthetic, featuring snippets of their lives and relationships. The result was a visual love letter to their community.

Even their attire was part of the artwork: Amy wore a look inspired by Monet’s Water Lilies, while John’s outfit pulled in bright, Bauhaus-inspired color blocking. Playful. Refined. Perfectly unexpected.

A Weekend That Reflected Their World

This wedding wasn’t about recreating someone else’s vision. It was about celebrating Amy and John’s world: the things they love, the places they’ve been, the people who shaped them, and the design language that brings them joy. The Maples Estate was the perfect canvas for it all—allowing us to stretch creatively while still providing a warm, grounded space where guests could relax and connect.

This is what happens when you throw out the rulebook and build something beautiful from the inside out.

Sustainable wedding weekend . Sarah & Tristen . 6.28.25

June 28, 2025 at The Maples Estate
Schoharie, NY – Upstate New York

A Naturally Elegant, Sustainable Celebration:

Sarah & Tristen at The Maples Estate
A sustainable wedding weekend with wild florals, wood fired food, and a packed dance floor.

Sarah and Tristen’s June wedding at The Maples Estate felt like the kind of weekend you never want to end—laid-back, vibrant, and filled with personality. With a guest list of 50 and a focus on sustainability, incredible food, and great music, their day was grounded in intention and elevated by community.

As a sustainable wedding venue in upstate New York, we love working with couples like Sarah and Tristen who want their celebration to reflect their values. From locally sourced florals and a thoughtful ceremony led by Sarah’s dad, to a custom DJ set by the groom and an unforgettable wood fired kitchen menu, every detail was designed with care.

Getting Ready: Calm, Comfortable, and Close-Knit

Sarah and Tristen kept things easy and authentic from the start. Sarah did her own makeup in the farmhouse surrounded by her closest friends—no stress, no rushing, just a slow, joyful morning surrounded by love. Tristen and his best man had their own quiet moments, getting ready and soaking in the stillness before the celebration began.

First Look & Private Vows

They shared private vows during a quiet first look—just the two of them tucked on the backside of the pond, framed by summer greenery. These personal moments are some of our favorites to help facilitate at The Maples—intentional, unrushed, and free of an audience.

A Tree Grove Ceremony with Heart

Under the shade of our tree grove, 50 guests gathered in a soft semi-circle for a ceremony led by Sarah’s father. A cluster of wild, locally grown florals framed the aisle, and a single seat was saved in honor of Sarah’s mother. A friend played acoustic guitar, giving the moment a grounded, familiar feeling. It was casual, progressive, and deeply personal—everything they hoped for.

Cocktail Hour on the Lawn

After the ceremony, guests moved to the cocktail lawn and meadow for a relaxed hour of drinks, grazing, and games. Tables were dressed with textured linens, bud vases, and flickering votives, and cocktails flowed from the bar. It was a warm, social moment, with guests lounging in the sun, playing lawn games, and enjoying the calm before the dance floor came alive.

Meanwhile, Sarah and Tristen shared a private moment together before rejoining the fun.

Reception Design Rooted in Nature

Inside the pavilion, their reception reflected the modern organic look they loved—brutalist-inspired design softened by wild blooms and candlelight. The tables featured local, sustainable florals, bud vases, garden edibles, and bronze-toned accents, creating a romantic but unfussy vibe. Guests found seating throughout the space, with lounge furniture adding comfort and flexibility for everyone to enjoy the night at their own pace.

Dinner through a Wood Fired Kitchen

Dinner was one of the most memorable parts of the night—not just for the flavor, but for the experience. Sarah and Tristen chose a wood fired catering co that served family-style dishes straight from the wood fired kitchen, using locally sourced ingredients and open-fire cooking. The result? A menu that was as exciting as it was nourishing.

The wood fired kitchen menu included charred seasonal vegetables, rustic breads, roasted meats, and summery sides that captured the best of upstate New York’s bounty. As a sustainable wedding venue, we love working with food partners who align with our values—and this one did just that.

Golden Hour Along the Creekside

As golden hour settled over the property, Sarah and Tristen took a quiet walk along the creekside path, pausing for sunset portraits overlooking the wildflower meadow. The soft evening light cast a warm glow across the landscape, with views of the pavilion and cocktail lawn in the distance—a peaceful, picturesque moment that captured both the beauty of the setting and the ease of the day. These photos feel like a breath of fresh air—romantic, grounded, and entirely them.

A Sweet & Meaningful Finish

Dessert featured a cake layered with fresh berries and whipped cream—topped with birthday candles to celebrate a trio of special birthdays that all fell on their wedding day: Tristen’s, a dear guest’s, and Sarah’s late mother’s. It was a heartfelt moment that added even more meaning to an already memorable evening.

Later, coffee, tea, and snacks made their way out as guests cozied up around the fire for late-night conversations. Before rejoining the group, Sarah and Tristen enjoyed a private last dance—closing out the day exactly how it began: just the two of them, grounded in love, presence, and intention.

Dancing, DJ Sets & a Packed Floor

After dinner, the pavilion transformed into a full-on dance party—Sarah’s dream. She absolutely loves dancing, and while Tristen usually prefers to stay behind the scenes, this moment was something special. The two actually met in college when Tristen was DJing a party Sarah attended, so it felt full circle when he stepped behind the booth again for his set. The lights dimmed, the playlist turned up, and Sarah—along with all their guests—filled the dance floor under the warm glow of the bistro lights. It was joyful, high-energy, and one of the most memorable parts of the night.

Intentional Planning, Start to Finish

Sarah and Tristen’s weekend was a true collaboration—every detail chosen with thought and purpose. Through our planning and design package, we helped curate their design, vendor team, layouts and decor, and guide the weekend’s flow. From the wood fired food to the progressive ceremony and sustainable florals, this was a wedding that reflected their priorities beautifully.

Victorian Wedding Theme . Vicki & Michael . 5.24.25

May 24, 2025 at The Maples Estate
Schoharie, NY – Upstate, NY

A Victorian Wedding Theme with Personal Touches

Vicki & Michael at The Maples Estate
A relaxed, romantic wedding weekend rooted in poetry, nature, and presence.

When we say our favorite weddings are the ones that feel like you, this is exactly what we mean.

Vicki and Michael’s spring wedding at The Maples Estate was a beautiful blend of intention, romance, and presence. With fewer than 30 guests, it had the feeling of an intimate retreat—relaxed, welcoming, and filled with personal touches. And while their style leaned into a Victorian wedding theme, nothing about the weekend felt stiff or overly formal. Instead, it was soft, thoughtful, and full of heart.

As a full-service wedding planner here in upstate New York, I love helping couples design a celebration that feels like them. For Vicki and Michael, that meant leaning into a Victorian wedding theme—but in a way that felt fresh and natural, blending literary references, vintage pieces, and gentle, romantic details with the beauty of our surroundings.

Getting Ready in the Farmhouse

The day began slow and cozy, with soft light pouring into the farmhouse. The room was filled with laughter, quiet excitement, and a few happy tears as she stepped into her gown—lace-trimmed and perfectly suited to the romantic tone of the day.

A First Look & Private Vows

At the pond, surrounded by trees and stillness, Vicki and Michael shared a private moment before the ceremony. They read vows to each other quietly, just the two of them. It was deeply personal, grounding, and exactly the kind of space we love helping couples create—unhurried and meaningful.

Ceremony in the Tree Grove

Guests made their way to our tree grove for a late afternoon ceremony. A floral ground arch framed the space where Vicki and Michael said their vows (again, this time with friends and family watching), accompanied by live strings and sunlight filtering through the leaves. It was simple, poetic, and full of heart.

Ceremony in the Grove

Vicki and Michael shared private vows before their ceremony, which took place in our tree grove surrounded by floral ground arrangements and the gentle rustle of leaves. The setting couldn’t have been more perfect for their Victorian-inspired wedding—a peaceful, natural backdrop that emphasized connection and simplicity.

Afterward, guests enjoyed cocktails on the lawn while the couple explored the property for photos—strolling along garden paths, pausing by the pond, and soaking in the springtime beauty of upstate New York. Dinner and dancing followed under the lights of the open-air pavilion, bringing everyone together in celebration and joy.

A Gathering of Less Than 30 Guests

One of the most beautiful parts of this wedding? The scale. With a guest list under 30 people, there was space for everyone to feel present. We paused for a photo of the entire group—smiling, relaxed, and genuinely happy to be part of the day. You could feel the connection between every person there.

A Kids’ Table with Creative Charm

For the younger guests, we created a cozy table filled with activities—coloring books, and a few quiet games. It gave parents a chance to relax and the kids a space to play, while still feeling like part of the celebration. Just another small but meaningful touch that helped the day flow naturally.

Reception Setup & Tablescape Details

Inside the open-air pavilion, the Victorian wedding theme really came to life. Dusty blue runners, vintage goblets and flatware, old books and candles set the mood. The florals were loose and textural, arranged in a way that felt romantic but not too fussy. Everything was intentionally mismatched and perfectly charming.

The pavilion was transformed with layered candlelight, wild florals, vintage books, and eclectic china that made every table feel like its own vignette. Gauzy blue runners flowed down long tables, while botanical menus gave the whole space a collected, lived-in elegance. Lounge areas encouraged guests to linger, while the soft evening glow made it all feel timeless and cozy.

Dinner Under the Pavilion

Dinner was served family-style as golden light filled the space. The couple opted for minimal formalities so guests could really enjoy themselves—sharing food, toasting the newlyweds, and lingering in conversation. It felt like an elevated dinner party surrounded by wildflowers and candlelight.

Dancing Under the Lights

As the sun set, the energy shifted naturally into celebration. Guests danced under the pavilion’s warm glow—some swaying quietly, others dancing like no one was watching. No big announcements or over-planned transitions, just a good flow and the kind of music that makes you want to stay up late.

Sunset Portraits

During golden hour, Vicki and Michael snuck away for a few sunset portraits. The hillside and open fields were glowing, and the photos feel like something from a storybook—romantic, soft, and effortlessly timeless.

A Fire-Lit Finish

As the night wound down, we lit the firepit. Guests cozied up, swapped stories, and lingered under the stars. It was the perfect way to close the evening—with warmth, calm, and a shared sense of joy.

Thoughtful Planning & Seamless Execution

Vicki and Michael worked with us on full-service planning and design, which meant we could help bring every detail to life—from the vendor team and rentals to the flow of the day and the overall aesthetic. Their kind review says it best:

“The Maples Estate was the perfect host for our small wedding weekend! Katie and Louis have created something so magical here… Katie was amazing to work with throughout the wedding planning process, creating a weekend that felt genuine to us and completely matched our vision. Every vendor she suggested was spot-on… The entire weekend felt well-paced and relaxing… We will forever cherish our memories of our wedding weekend at The Maples Estate!”
