A Decadent Garden Party with Personality & Play
Aislinn & Alec at The Maples Estate
August 23, 2025 | Schoharie, NY
Aislinn and Alec came into their planning process with an incredibly clear (and completely refreshing) vision: they wanted a wedding that was chill, fun, and beautiful—but never overdone. Their focus wasn’t on tradition. It wasn’t on following trends. It was on creating a celebration that looked and felt like them.
They imagined a playful, artful weekend in the late summer—something that felt like a cross between a vintage garden picnic, a Berlin cocktail bar, and a curated gallery of their life together. Think: pops of color, wild florals, mid-century furniture, 90s fashion, craft cocktails, and a great playlist. As their garden wedding venue and planning team, we were thrilled to help bring their vision to life.
A Wedding That Was Never Meant to Feel Like a Wedding
From the start, Aislinn and Alec were less concerned with rules and more focused on vibe. They wanted good food, great drinks, a diverse soundtrack, and space for conversation and dancing—not a rigid schedule or a million formalities.
We tossed the "traditional reception" playbook in favor of:
Joint getting-ready moments (they share all the same friends anyway)
Minimal speeches and no forced timelines
A casual, joyful flow from ceremony to cocktails to an all-night dance party
Design that felt like home, but cooler
Vintage Florals, Whimsical Textures & A Bold Color Palette
Their design direction centered around a decadent picnic garden party aesthetic, with vintage and mid-century influences, and lots of texture and color. Aislinn loved bows, draping, gingham, and wildflowers. Alec leaned more minimal and architectural. The final result was a perfect blend of both of them—equal parts playful and stylish.
We built the palette around lilac, light blue, mauve pink, and olive green, and layered in poppy red and sunny yellow as unexpected accent colors. Mixed metals and creamy neutrals gave the whole thing a soft glow without feeling too precious.
Their florals were intentionally wild and imperfect—messy in a way that felt curated, not chaotic. Everything was designed to look like it had just been picked and artfully arranged, without too much fuss.
A Celebration Rooted in Who They Are
We knew from their initional onboarding and early planning convos that Aislinn and Alec are all about thoughtful curation. They love vintage pieces with a story. He collects records, she hoards vintage furniture and wears thrifted dresses. They met in Italy, love Berlin, and live for a great cocktail and a better conversation. Their perfect day involves multiple locations, spontaneous encounters, good drinks, and even better people.
So, we built that into the wedding:
Lounge vignettes with vintage furniture, perfect for chatting or dancing barefoot
Wild, textural floral arrangements that felt gathered rather than styled
A photojournalistic shooting style that matched their 90s-meets-film-camera aesthetic
And of course, Aislinn’s 90s-inspired dress tied it all together.
A Garden Wedding Venue That Let the Weekend Breathe
At The Maples Estate, we design weddings that unfold across a weekend, not a few rushed hours—and that was perfect for Aislinn and Alec. They had time for a family cookout on Thursday, space to create floral arrangements with friends on Friday, host a casual rehearsal-style dinner that night, and fully relax into their wedding day without the pressure of sticking to a strict timeline.
Their goal? A weekend getaway with their favorite people. Something that looked beautiful, felt effortless, and gave everyone space to be present. And that’s exactly what we created together.
Planning a Wedding That Feels Like You?
Whether you’re dreaming of a weekend filled with dance parties and dirty martinis, or a picnic-in-the-meadow kind of vibe, we’d love to help you design a wedding that celebrates your story—not someone else’s. Let’s make it playful. Let’s make it personal. Let’s make it yours.
